Clear Channel Media + Entertainment Wichita claims 3 KAB Awards:
Weather, Fundraising, Sports
Clear Channel's Wichita group has won 3 awards from the Kansas Association of Broadcasters (KAB), including Honorable Mention for May 19th's tornado coverage, 2nd place for last October's Derby vs. Heights football game and 1st place for special programming in the group's efforts to collect donations for those affected by the Moore, OK. disaster.
2013 was an especially dangerous tornado season. The May 19th storm featured Tommy Castor and Brian Jennings picking up coverage when TV partner KSN was forced to abandon their studios from the approaching tornado. The "ICT 4 OKC" program organized all four stations (KRBB, KTHR, KZCH and KZSN) into a single collection effort for the citizens of Moore, OK. Thousands of items were delivered to the affected areas.
In response to the awards announcement, Operations Manager Tony Matteo said "We’re proud to serve Wichita and to make sure that our weather coverage, disaster response and local news and sports coverage is done at a high level. We’re very thankful for the KAB’s recognition." The KAB Awards will be held October 21st in Manhattan.
